Wrestler Of The Week
As of last weekend, one of the most influential tournaments in Japanese women’s wrestling is underway. And, on night one of Stardom’s 5STAR Grand Prix, there were multiple opening round upsets in both blocks of the tourney. Perhaps the most astonishing of these was in the main event, which saw Maika—primarily a tag team competitor—score a victory over dominant World of Stardom champion Utami Hayashishita. Since the Grand Prix is a round-robin style tournament, a la NJPW’s G1 Climax, this opening round victory is just that—a single win. But it does bode well for Maika, who surely got a boost of confidence from having her hand raised.

From The Vault
Though the release of a new issue is typically a happy occasion for us, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the sad passing of “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton. In recent years, Eaton dealt with multiple medical issues, but he retained a positive attitude and the good nature he was known for away from his legendary rulebreaking work in the ring. He was, of course, a highly decorated champion, both as a singles wrestler and as a member of the Midnight Express (the photo above was taken from their clash with The Fantastics at Great American ’88). Our hearts go out to Bobby’s many fans, friends, and loved ones. One of the absolute greats, he will be dearly missed.
EXCLUSIVE: An American Wrestler In Europe!
On behalf of PWI and Bell To Belles, Mr. Warren Hayes recently spoke to Hyan, a highly regarded American independent wrestler who has done something none of her peers have done since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic—traveled to the U.K. to compete in the ring. In this exclusive interview, "The Renaissance Woman" discusses her experiences in jolly old England so far, including her mandatory quarantine period, in-ring battles with Zoe Lucas and Gisele Shaw, and what she has planned for the rest of her European tour.
