The Morning After 'Mania: Doing Delightfully At Dynasty
HELLO AND WELCOME TO a special edition of the PWI Weekly, in which we will be talking all things Joan Collins, Linda Evans, and John Forsythe.
Wait, wrong Dynasty.
While we sip our coffees and attempt to keep our eyes open after all the wrestling we’ve taken in over the last few days—look for WrestleMania-adjacent goodies in the weeks ahead, as well as in our upcoming “Supercards” issue—here are some reflections on the recent AEW Dynasty pay-per-view.
TAG TEAM OF THE WEEK
Say what you will about Stokely Hathaway, but the man knows talent. And, in FTR, he has perhaps the greatest tag team of the modern era under his guidance. At Revolution, FTR saw off the challenge of The Young Bucks and then followed it up with a victory over Adam Copeland & Christian Cage at Dynasty.
Those are two of the most decorated duos of the last quarter-century, and FTR dispatched both in impressive fashion. Nearly five months into their third reign as AEW World tag team champions, Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler continue to find new ways to keep themselves competitive in an ever-evolving landscape—and to find new levels of success in the process.
SPOTLIGHT ON …
If you’ve followed the career of Kevin Knight for any length of time, you won’t need a lesson in how talented he is. With his TNT championship victory at Dynasty, however, it feels like the more casual fans out there are about to find out exactly what they’ve been missing.
Although he has mostly found himself competing in tag team and trios matches during his AEW tenure, Knight’s capture of the vacant TNT crown felt like a true breakout moment for him as a singles competitor. History has shown us that the TNT title picture is a crowded and combative one, where wrestlers struggle to hold onto the gold for long. Can Knight break with the recent trend? We like his chances.
A QUICK WORD ABOUT …
If you missed out on the Zero Hour pre-show before Dynasty, well, shame on you … because you missed the return of one of the most dangerous women in AEW. After 529 days away, Kamille finally stepped back onto the scene at All Elite Wrestling.
Of course, if you’re Willow Nightingale, the returning “Brickhouse” wasn’t exactly a sight for sore eyes. The former NWA World Women’s champion promptly attacked the TBS titleholder the moment she reappeared.
Following it up with an impressive victory over Pacific Northwest competitor Big Anne, it’s hard to categorize Kamille’s return as anything other than a major opportunity. A TBS title reign just might make it more so.
AND ANOTHER THING …
Say what you will about the nasty attitude (and occasionally questionable ring tactics) of Thekla, but there’s no denying that gold looks good on “The Toxic Spider.” The AEW Women’s World champion fended off a game Jamie Hayter in a hard-hitting war at Dynasty—a suitable follow-up to her best-of-three-falls victory over Kris Statlander at March’s Revolution event.
COVER STAR
Making the cover of PWI the same week as retaining his AEW Men’s World championship in the main event of Dynasty? Not bad, MJF.
Of course, things didn’t quite work out so well the following Wednesday, when the Long Islander lost his precious “Triple B” to Darby Allin. Nonetheless, we’ll be shocked if the self-proclaimed “Salt Of The Earth” is out of the title picture for very long, as MJF remains confident that he’s the greatest wrestler on the planet.
For more on the two-time World champ’s roguish designs for the rest of this year, check out Al Castle’s conversation with MJF—one of pro wrestling’s most truly detestable (yet undeniably skilled) stars—in our June 2026 edition. It’s available now for print preorder and digital purchase.
